Update - July 2023

It’s midwinter and cold out there, but Dream South D has been on fire! In the last few months, our focus has been on engagement - finding out what you love about South D as well as your ideas for potential community projects.

Here are some statistics! We’ve collected just over 350 completed survey postcards, as well as gathered feedback from 64 people who attended the South Dunedin Community Network’s hui in November 2022. We’ve talked with representatives from 40 groups during 20 meetings and workshops. On top of that, we’ve spoken with all the business and service providers along King Edward Street between Hillside and Macandrew Roads.

We sprinkled over 10,000 survey postcards across the South D area in letterboxes, schools, shops and businesses. We had a stand at the South Dunedin Street Festival too. We advertised the workshops and survey in the Star, The Lowdown, the council’s pānui, school newsletters, community email mailing lists and on social media.

One third of those who completed the survey and all of the people who attended our meetings have asked to stay updated on the project. We appreciate everyone’s time and willingness to give us their feedback - as well as your commitment and interest in keeping in touch.

The person who has led this huge piece of work is Nikita Choveaux, our new Community Facilitator. Nikita’s love for South Dunedin, organisational talents and ability to extend manaaki to everyone she meets has given Dream South D a tremendous boost, and we love working with her.

What comes next? This month, we will be sitting down and looking at everything we’ve learned, identifying some themes and pinpointing potential community projects. We will share the outcomes with you in a month or so on this website and also via our email newsletter (sign up in the footer of this website).

One last thing - we need your help! We're recruiting an Office Administrator - a proactive and community-minded administrative maestro to run our office, work alongside Nikita and manage our communications. Applications are due in a week on Saturday 15 July

If you are keen to apply - or know someone who might be interested - please check out the job vacancy: www.dreamsouthd.org.nz/vacancy

Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi - Everybody has something to offer, a piece of the puzzle, and by working together we can all flourish.

Ngā manaakitanga, Sarah - Chair, Dream South D Trust
