Are you keen to get good stuff done in South D?
We’d love your help!
Contributing to your community is a great way to connect with people, band together over common passions, learn new skills and have fun.
If you have a passion, a skill or just some time and helping hands that you’d like to share, from time to time we need help with community projects of all shapes and sizes. Get in touch with us by emailing Rosie at hello@dreamsouthd.org.nz or calling 022 350 2297.
With many thanks to our friends at Tapawera Connect for sharing their animation and to Sugarcube Studios for creating it!

Do you have a project idea or proposal for us?

Dream South D has created a community plan of projects based on feedback we’ve gathered from the South D community. As well as the projects set out in the plan, we may be able to pick up other projects proposed by community members where they are supported by the community’s feedback.
Our aim is to strengthen the kaupapa (values, principles and plans) of projects in the community and increase the benefits of mahi tahi (working together). Dream South D can bring support of various kinds to the table: experience, knowledge and/or funding.
Because we work in a community-led development way, we may not be able to collaborate on every project that’s proposed to us. However, even if we turn a project down, we will provide any useful information we can and help identify other sources of support.
Dream South D will consider collaborating on community projects that:
align with one of the three themes in the community plan: Get Together, Looking Good, and Getting Around
involve and benefit those who live, work, learn and play in South Dunedin
build on South D’s strengths and uplift the mana of South D people
if it’s an ongoing project, have a plan for longevity beyond Dream South D’s support.

Community-Led Development Principles provide guidance on the kinds of projects we can support. The principles emphasise the benefits gained from the process of working together as much as the tangible product or result of a project. Drawing from the text of the principles, projects will do one or more of the following:
grow a shared sense of optimism and collective ownership of the future
support the aspirations of local whānau, hapū and iwi
build relationships between neighbours
proactively involve people who are frequently ignored
value different cultural approaches to leadership
support local people who are doing things and connect them to others to grow their effectiveness
invest in developing skills and capacity of local leaders
celebrate local leaders and community achievements.
In addition, all partners in a collaboration should also feel confident that they can work well together, have a shared understanding of roles, responsibilities and risks, and commit to transparent financial processes.
Out-of-scope projects include significant capital works, projects that are typically part of the work programme of local government, and funding salaries for staff.
We look forward to hearing about your ideas for and work in South D. Our contact details are below. Kia ora rawa atu!
