Resources
Here's a list of resources and support networks that we turn to when running both community projects and our community organisation.
If you're looking for some help, this list of resources and organisations might provide a place to start. But always do your own research too!
The Dunedin City Council has a toolkit for helping you to run a festival or event. It includes advice on health and safety.
Inspiring Communities supports community-led development practices. Their work - including providing resources and training - is built on the back of the five principles of community-led development, which are also core to our work at Dream South D.
Generosity New Zealand is a database of funding sources that you can use to find funding for your project. You can access it for free at the Dunedin City Library.
CommunityNet Aotearoa is an online hub for all things community - chock full of resources to help you set up and run your community organisation.
The Gift Collective is an organisation that fund holds for charitable initiatives so that you don’t have to go through the process of creating a registered charitable trust yourself. While we haven’t worked with the Gift Collective, it’s good to see that they are listed on the Charities Services website.
Tauiwi Solutions is a Dunedin-based facilitation and workshop service that runs decolonisation workshops for Pākehā and Tauiwi. Some of us have also completed courses in te ao Māori and te reo Māori with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (many are free) as well as Ngā Herenga with UCOnline.
NZ Navigator is a free online self-assessment to help you identify your organisation’s strengths and weaknesses.
The Employment Agreement Builder is a tool from business.govt.nz for creating employment agreements for your employees. It covers what you must do by law and can be tailored to your needs.
Thankyou Payroll (currently in transition to a charitable trust) does payroll and is free for registered charities.
If you need policies for your organisation, you are welcome to adapt Dream South D’s policies to suit your own context and practices. We do our best to keep our policies up to date with legislative changes, and we welcome any feedback on them.
