Update - March 2023
Kia ora 2023! The steering group has kicked off the year with a bang by distributing 10,000 postcards across homes in South Dunedin. The postcard has a short survey printed on it asking residents to response to three questions: What do you love about South D? How could it be better for you, your whānau, your friends? and If you could change one thing, what would that be?
We’ve put collection boxes for completed postcards in a range of organisations and businesses around South D, including Te Kāika, Pacific Trust Otago, the Pop Up Library, Antidote Macandrew, Takeaways on Marlow, Four Square St Clair and 278A King Edward St.
From this survey, we are hoping to get a good steer from the community about what it cares about most and what it would like to see happen in South D.
As well, we’ve been getting ready for the South Dunedin Street Festival. We’ll have a stand where you can share your stories and ideas - come along! To help us lift the profile of the project, we were delighted to to get an article in The Star too.
Last year we drafted an engagement plan, and this month we added ways to measure the success of our engagement. This gives us a way to monitor that we are giving everyone in the community the best possible opportunity to have input into the formation of a community plan.
Two steering group members left us at the beginning of the year. Warren Edlin has been a dynamo of energy, and he will continue to support the South D community in many ways, including by distributing The Lowdown mag for the South Dunedin Community Network. Karley Parker has significantly shaped how the steering group views and prioritises access issues and remains an advisor to the steering group. Thank you to both these wonderful, committed members of the community for their many hours of work in 2022.
Alec Clark from the South Dunedin Community Network rōpū has joined us in an advisory capacity to keep the link with the Network strong. We also welcome Hurihia Luafitu, who has replaced Rachael Thomas as our Lead Advisor from the Department of Internal Affairs. Thank you for joining us!
Our goals for the next three months are to analyse the results of the postcard survey, begin conversations with South D’s many organisations and their members, and welcome Dream South D’s first worker on board! More on those things in the next update.
How can you help?
Please take the survey! You can do it online here.
If you are part of an organisation, service or community in South D, and you think we need to hear your voice, get in touch by emailing hello@dreamsouthd.org.nz. We’d love to hear from you.
We have outgrown our space at 278A King Edward St. If you have space for lease that would fit 2-3 workers and includes a meeting room, please contact convenor@dreamsouthd.org..nz
