Update - April 2024

Lovely old cottages in South D

Every few months, we like to provide a quick round up of our mahi. This is the first update for 2024, and we’re excited to have started work on a first handful of projects from our community plan.

Highlights so far:

  • working with the Gasworks Growers and Craft Market committee to develop and promote the new market based at the Gasworks Museum

  • providing the community’s feedback on the dinosaur park redevelopment to the Council

  • a successful collaboration to renew the Heart and Soil Community Garden, which has grown and distributed veges to local families this summer

  • submitting the community’s feedback on public transport to the Otago Regional Council.

We are also in the midst of planning a range of other projects, working with interested locals and community groups to make them happen. We are focusing on:

  • King Edward Street - beautifying and improving public spaces and highlighting the character of the area

  • a community mural painted by local residents - developed with the South Dunedin Street Art Trail

  • play parks - local gatherings to promote neighbourhood connection and play, in collaboration with Sport Otago

  • a community event for later in the year - an opportunity to come together and celebrate.

Planning will be our focus over the next couple of months before we start rolling out these and other projects.

In other news, we are very excited to welcome Rosie Hill to the Dream South D team as Project Coordinator. Rosie starts at the end of April and joins Nikita Choveaux (Manager) and Nicola Pye (Communications and Administration).

Rosie starts at the same time that we move into our permanent office at 183 King Edward Street - opposite the post office and right in the heart of South D.

To find out more, chat about how we might support your kaupapa or explore ways that we could work together, pop in for a cuppa (office hours at 183 King Edward St are 9am-3.30pm, Monday to Friday), call or email (details below).

Ngā mihi nui,

The team at Dream South D
