Dream South D, together with Sport Otago and Whānau Āwhina Plunket, is excited to host three free, fun-filled Play Parks events during the first week of the October school holidays at parks around South Dunedin! These events turn local parks into vibrant play spaces where everyone can enjoy outdoor activities, games and a community atmosphere, all while connecting with their neighbours.

Inspired by Sport New Zealand Ihi Aotearoa’s Play Streets concept, Play Parks are a creative way to meet the community’s desire for more play spaces, while helping us all build stronger, more connected communities. By keeping it local, we hope that this will spark community connections that last long after the school holidays are over.

  • Bathgate Park: 11am-1pm, Monday 30 September (rain date: Mon 7 Oct)

  • Tonga Park: 11am-1pm, Wednesday 2 October (rain date: Wed 9 Oct)

  • Culling Park: 11am-1pm, Friday 4 October (rain date: Fri 11 Oct)

Thanks to support from Sport Otago’s Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa Fund, Dream South D will be bringing along plenty of play equipment - some big items for everyone to enjoy at each event, and smaller ones to take home afterwards. Plus, we’ll be hosting a free barbecue for the whole community! Everyone’s welcome, so grab your favorite toys, bikes, balls, kites, and come join the fun! Check our Facebook page for postponements

Sport Otago’s Reconnecting Gear

Sport Otago will also be at each event with Reconnecting Gear (formerly Replay), an initiative that collects second-hand and unused sports gear, shoes, and clothing to help kids in the Otago region stay active. Through donation drives and community events, Sport Otago redistribute these items to communities in need, giving youth the opportunity to participate in sports. Whether it’s a football or netball shoes that are still in good condition, Reconnecting Gear provides new opportunities for our youth.

We’d also like to thank Albion Cricket Club, Southern Rugby Football Club, Southern Magpies Softball Club and Fulton Hogan for running our free BBQs - thanks guys!
