Community Gardens of South Dunedin

While we were completing our community engagement phase, many people gave feedback about the desire for community gardens in South Dunedin. As there are already several established community gardens in the area, the challenge for Dream South D was to try and raise the profile of these bountiful gardens, and help connect the community, garden representatives and volunteers to share knowledge and resources.

To this end, representatives of several local gardens met with Dream South D. From this connection, an exchange of excess produce from Musselburgh Heart and Soil Community Garden to Able Minds and Catholic Social Services started. Both Able Minds and CSS host regular free meals for community members, so this was a very helpful way to support them, and to ensure that no food was wasted.

Able Minds hosted a visit to their community garden and provided a delicious lunch made with produce from their garden. They also invited SuperGrans along, as an organisation who teaches cooking skills and can bridge the gap between produce and meals.
