Heart and Soil Community Gardens

The Heart and Soil Community Garden was set up a good few years ago, but more recently a lack of time, and resources (not to mention Covid) meant that it had become a bit neglected. We were approached to offer support to get the garden back up and running, with the goal of educating the tamariki through fun, practical activities, as well as helping to feed the community. We’ve been so pleased to see that all the work the school and local community has put into the rejuvenated garden has been a resounding success! And even better, the bounty of the garden has also led to future planning for all kinds of ways to incorporate gardening and nature into the curriculum.

Our team of collaborators for this project was Musselburgh School, the Dunedin Multicultural Council, Enviroschools, the Dunedin Vegetable Growers Club, the St Kilda Seed Library and Seedling Stall as well as Mitre 10 Mega Dunedin and Kitset Assembly Services who worked together to donate and install a fantastic garden shed on site.

If you’d like to get know more or get involved with the garden, you can email garden@dmec.org.nz, phone Lux on 021727473 or turn up to one of the regular monthly sessions from 10am - 12pm on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. The garden is situated on the Auld St side of Musselburgh School.
