Kia ora koutou - we hope you’re all well and keeping toasty warm this winter! Read on for the latest Dream South D updates:

The focus at Dream South D lately has been on a bundle of smaller projects - it’s been great to start completing some of these, while we continue to scope and plan our larger projects.

Coming up this weekend, we have our first South D Spring Clean day, where we’ll be supplying skips so the community can get rid of all that general household rubbish that often seems to gather about the place (contact us for more info if you’re a local and want to make use of this event). Rosie, our Project Coordinator has gathered a lovely bunch of volunteers to help us out, so we’re looking forward to a very productive day! A huge thanks to Cargill Enterprises, Al-Noor Charitable Trust, Ollie from Save Money Skips, and AJ and Matt from Cutlers, who’ve all been really helpful in getting this organised.

PLAY PARKS

Dream South D, along with Whānau Āwhina Plunket and Sport Otago are running three Play Parks events during the October school holidays, across various parks in South Dunedin.

Play Parks are a fun way for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau to play outside, be active, get to know each other, and promote better connected neighbourhoods. They also aim to to promote active play beyond playgrounds. These events will be advertised via mailbox drops rather than widely advertised, to better replicate the local connection of the original Play Street concept.

We’d like to thank Albion Cricket Club, Dunedin City Royals Football Club and Southern Rugby Football Club for their support, as well as Trade Assist who’ll be helping out with a free BBQ!

COMMUNITY NOTICEBOARDS

During our community engagement phase, people reported they wanted to see more ways of sharing local information - and community noticeboards were a popular option. We’re very pleased now to be able to show off these two brand new noticeboards, which our neighbours at the South Dunedin Community Hall are kindly hosting. If you have any posters or flyers for events or info of interest to the South Dunedin community, please drop them off to us at 183 King Edward St, and we’ll pop them up for you.

REMAKE REVOLUTION at the GASWORKS MARKET

The next Gasworks Market will be held on Saturday 5 October, and will feature Remake Revolution, a fashion show competition based on recycling, upcycling and reusing old fabrics and clothes into completely new designs. Registration for designers are open until 5 September, so there’s still time to get involved! And even if you’re not design-inclined, pop into the market for a look - you’ll find all kinds of great little stalls, and you’ll be supporting local!

This market is a great example of community collaboration, with massive support from the Dunedin Gasworks Museum, Supergrans, The Free Shop Ōtepoti, The Seedling and the Dunedin Vegetable Growers Club, as well as Dream South D!
