Kia ora koutou - welcome to Dream South D’s spring newsletter!

First up, together with Sport Otago and Whānau Āwhina Plunket, we’re very excited to be hosting three free, fun-filled Play Parks events this coming week! These events turn local parks into vibrant play spaces where everyone can enjoy outdoor activities, games and a community atmosphere, all while connecting with their neighbours. Dates and times:

• Bathgate Park: 11am-1pm, Monday 30 September (rain date: Mon 7 Oct)

• Tonga Park: 11am-1pm, Wednesday 2 October (rain date: Wed 9 Oct)

• Culling Park: 11am-1pm, Friday 4 October (rain date: Fri 11 Oct)

Thanks to support from Sport Otago’s Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa Fund, we’ll be bringing along plenty of play equipment - some big items for everyone to enjoy at each event, and smaller ones to take home afterwards. Plus, we’ll be hosting a free barbecue for the whole community! Everyone’s welcome, so grab your favorite toys, bikes, balls, kites, and come join the fun!

COMMUNITY MURAL

Pop along to Rankeilor St to check out this beautiful new street art! These works are the result of our collaboration with Studio 2 and the South Dunedin Street Art Trail, with space provided by Naylor Love. We’re so pleased with the results, and it really helps to brighten up the new library site while it’s in construction phase!

FRIGHT NIGHT ON ICE

Our Halloween event is shaping up to be a fun evening, with free entry for all, a photobooth and costume prizes 👻🎃🧟  This will be a chance for the community to get together and enjoy a bit of light-hearted, spooky fun and maybe burn off some of that bonus trick-or-treat energy! Don’t forget to bring $3 for skate hire, and your scariest (skate-friendly) Halloween dress-ups!

GARDEN NETWORK

Our Garden Network project is designed to help connect South Dunedin community gardens and their people, to share resources, raise awareness and support sustainability - a practical way to help build resilience and connection in South D. Rosie, our Project Coordinator, was able to provide feedback on our progress to city-wide community gardens at a recent hui organised by Our Food Network and a visit to Able Minds’ beautiful garden was both inspiring and delicious!

GASWORKS MARKET

The Gasworks Market will be back with a bang next weekend! Each market event for the rest of 2024 has a different theme:

• Saturday 5 October: Remake Revolution Fashion Show

• Saturday 2 November: Get Growing

• Monday 23 December: Christmas Night Market

They should all be loads of fun so pop over to the Gasworks Museum and see what’s happening!
